Flora Kaziranga National Park

Generally the most important varieties of flora in Kaziranga National Park that you can easily hit upon are alluvial submersed meadows, soggy evergreen wooded areas and tropical partially evergreen jungles. Many people are not aware of that this park is the major floodplain meadow that is undoubtedly different from all and where meadows rule the west, with the giant elephant grass on the elevated land and the miniature grasses growing next to the rivers, regionally popular as 'beels'.

Apart from the above, various forms and scattered trees of Bombax ceiba, Dillenia indica, etc. are the most common types of grasses here. In line with the experts, the tropical wet evergreen jungles are occupied by trees like Aphanamixis polystachya, Talauma hodgsonii, Dillenia indica, Ficus rumphii, Cinnamomum bejoighota, and so on. In addition, amid the grasses leading species that provide shade & cover comprise Kumbhi, Indian gooseberry, and elephant apple.

Other widespread trees & vegetation are Albizia procera, Duabanga grandiflora, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Crateva unilocularis, Sterculia urens, etc. And here, a fact will amaze you that the Silk Cotton tree (Bombax ceiba) changes to 'red' with the harmonized blossoming of the flowers and afterwards scatter their seeds in white balls of fur that drift with the air in the hot season.

What is more, statistics out in 1986 exposed that leftovers by diverse variety of plants in Kaziranga take account of lofty grasses 41 percent, miniature grasses 11 percent, open forests 29 percent, rivers & water bodies 8 percent, and sand 6 percent.
