Information About Kaziranga

Talking about the historical fact of this park, it is heard that this park is related to Mary Curzon - the wife of Lord Curzon who was the Viceroy of India. Once Mary Curzon paid a visit to this park and her main aim was to see the famous Indian one-horned Rhinoceros. At that time, she could not find even a single rhinoceros there. It was the time when she asked Lord Curzon - her husband to take some serious steps to give protection to endangered wildlife species like Indian one-horned rhinoceros. On her encouragement, Lord Curzoninitiated wildlife protection planning. It was his efforts that Kaziranga Reserve Forest came into existence and wildlife explorers can explore rare and unseen species of wildlife.

In 1905, 232 km sq area of the park was reserved for Kaziranga Reserve Forest. In this reserve, several types of wildlife species reside in their natural habitat. Besides one-horned Indian rhinoceros, it is a breeding land of wild water buffalo, swamp deer and elephants. Tiger population also resides in this park. So, if you expect to meet the majestic tigers, a tour to Kaziranga National Park is perfect for you. Due to the significant presence of tigers here, in 2006, this park was stated as Tiger Reserve.

As Kaziranga National Park is a home of various types of bird species, BirdLife International recognised it a critical Bird Region for the preservation of Avifaunal bird species. A tour to Kaziranga will give you an opportunity to discover unseen and highly interesting bird species including ferruginous duck, lesser adjutant, lesser white-fronted goose, baer'spochard duck, Asian Openbill stork, black-necked stork, and greater adjutant. All these birds are migrated birds that come from Central Asia side in the winter season to this park.

The Kaziranga National Park remains closed from around the first week of June to the first week of October every year due to the flooding of the park.
